‘May’ we talk about humans for a minute?
"What happens when you put 100+ management students and people who've seen the corporate world up close together?"
A LOT!
This month, our team spent time with the management students of Galgotias University, located in Greater Noida and the room was full of questions- "How do I stand out when AI can do half my work?" "Does confidence really matter if my technical skills are strong?" "How do I know if I'm industry-ready?"
The session was conducted by Dr Nilanjan Mukherji, Head of Sales & Marketing and Ms Pushpa Nair from Maxme, who shared insights on human skills and their unparalleled value in today’s competitive landscape, along with a few reality checks about what employers are really looking for.
AI is everywhere these days. Open LinkedIn, someone's talking about it, open Instagram, someone's selling it and log onto an online meeting, someone's worried about it. But here's what caught our attention: a recent Forbes piece on the five skills every high school graduate needs. It didn't mention ChatGPT, coding, prompt engineering, or any fancy tech buzzword. Instead, it talked about things like self-awareness, self-care, clarity, decisiveness and even... practicing joy. Yes. Joy. Now here's the awkward question. When was the last time a college or a school taught someone how to stay calm when things go wrong? Or how to make a tough decision? Or how to understand their own strengths and blind spots?
Exactly.
"Remain calm under pressure" is not in semester 4
Schools and universities, not just in India but around the world, have spent years teaching students what to think, but far too little time helping them understand how to think. And that's why we keep doing what we do. We understand there’s a gap. We understand that educational institutes are already burdened with parents' and students' expectations; they perhaps have better infrastructure to provide to students, along with better amenities, and, not to forget, internal immersion in one of the countries in Europe. Quite a lot of work!
That’s why we work hand in hand with them, without any overlap with their day-to-day activities or curriculum, to help students be not just toppers but also professionals who remain AI-proof today and in the times to come.
Being human still takes practice and at Maxme, we help students in schools and universities and professionals in corporates realise their true potential, maybe bring what they already have, just on the surface.
You are welcome!
Meanwhile, some 10,200 kilometres away...
Our Australian HQ has officially moved into a new home on Melbourne's iconic Collins Street. The office has better views, and world class coffee on every corner! But a shiny office has never made anyone successful.
Success looks more like Ramesh from Finance staying back to help a colleague understand a spreadsheet for the third time without losing his patience.
It looks like Stuti, in Class 10 sitting next to a friend who didn't score well in an exam, reminding her that one test doesn't define her worth.
It looks like Rahul, a BTech CSE student, sharing notes, ideas with his classmates because he knows that collaboration gets everyone further.
A new office is exciting. But not as exciting as seeing students and professionals making strides in their respective journeys, showing their ‘human’ side when the machine flashes "Error 404" or decides it needs to "recalibrate."
That's the kind of upgrade we really love and aspire for- the kind that makes all the late evenings, extra effort, and lights-on moments worth it.
Over to you, June.
