Human on the Inside with Sharon Grant
Human on the Inside. We’re big believers in the power of human skills. But don’t just take our word for it - the evidence for excellence powered by human (‘soft’) skills is everywhere! In this engaging, ever-enlightening series, we speak with industry leaders, innovators and game-changers to learn a little about their personal career journeys, and how human-led strategies, philosophies and cultures are proving a force for good in their working worlds …
Maxme: Welcome Sharon, and thanks for stepping into the #SuccessIsHuman Spotlight!
You’re the Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of MOD3RN Care - a medical specialist cloud hosting company focusing on delivering "client outcome" based customer service with a global reach that will allow you to operate in multiple regional markets with data sovereignty guaranteed for regions that require this as a priority.
Simultaneously, you’re CEO of RMS Tech - a small family feel IT Solutions Provider with big business resources. You have an expert team located around the globe in Los Angeles, London, Singapore as well as right here at home – Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.
In 1 sentence (ok, we’ll give you 3), what do these roles entail?
Sharon Grant: At MOD3RN Care, I lead international partnerships across India, Australia, and beyond to deliver cutting-edge cloud hosting, virtual care platforms, and AI-driven disease screening. From statewide cardiovascular programmes to precision cancer diagnostics, our focus is on real-world impact: saving lives, improving outcomes, and making healthcare more accessible. We work with governments, hospitals, SaaS innovators, and public-private alliances to bring high-performance, compliant infrastructure to both emerging and developed markets—always with a purpose-led, commercially smart approach grounded in deep experience across cloud strategy, cybersecurity, and interoperability.
M: Whilst you founded MOD3RN Cloud 4 years ago, your career is of course much deeper than this. You spent over a decade with Flight Centre, creating a movement of passionate sales professionals as Sales, Product and Training Manager. From here you moved to Elegant Sales Success whilst simultaneously inspiring students at the Academy of Entrepreneurs as Head Trainer, Mentor & Facilitator before building RMS Tech.
How does all this work speak to your personal purpose and what drives you as an individual?
SG: My career has always been driven by a passion for empowering people—whether building high-performing sales teams at Flight Centre, mentoring entrepreneurs, or leading technology businesses. I’m motivated by creating environments where individuals can thrive, innovate, and deliver meaningful outcomes for clients and communities. At the heart of everything I do is a belief in the power of human connection and the positive impact of purpose-driven leadership.
M: Tell us a little about your personal education pathway/s - what led you to where you are now? How closely do your formal qualifications match your current career?
SG: My educational journey has been a blend of formal study and continuous, real-world learning. While my qualifications provided a strong foundation in business and leadership, it’s been the hands-on experiences—leading teams, launching ventures, and adapting to new challenges—that have truly shaped my career. I believe lifelong learning and adaptability are just as important as formal credentials in today’s dynamic business landscape.
M: If you could share one piece of career advice to your 21 year old self it would be ...
SG: Stop waiting for permission. The rules you think exist are mostly made up—so challenge them, back yourself, and don’t let anyone else’s limitations become your own. The most interesting paths are rarely the safest.
M: Maximising the potential of individuals, communities and businesses through the power of human skills is the reason Maxme exists. Can you tell us a little about the role and / or value of human skills in your workplace right now?
SG: Human skills are at the core of our success. In both MOD3RN Care and RMS Tech, empathy, communication, adaptability, and collaboration are essential for building trust with clients and fostering a supportive team culture. Technical expertise is important, but it’s the human element that drives innovation, resilience, and long-term relationships.
M: Self Awareness sets the critical foundation for all Maxme learning experiences. With that said … what’s your strongest trait / personal super power?
SG: My strongest trait is the ability to connect with people—whether clients, colleagues, or partners—and inspire them to achieve their best. I’m known for my approachable leadership style and my knack for bringing out the strengths in others.
M: And on the flip side, what’s one human / ‘soft’ skill you’ve had to really work on improving over the course of your career?
SG: I’ve worked hard on developing patience and active listening. Early in my career, I was eager to move quickly and solve problems, but I’ve learned the value of slowing down, truly hearing others’ perspectives, and fostering inclusive decision-making.
M: If you could share one piece of career advice with recent Uni graduates or candidates keen to work in Human Resources, what would it be?
SG: Forget ticking boxes—be the person who asks the uncomfortable questions, who sees the human behind the CV, and who’s brave enough to disrupt the status quo. HR isn’t about gatekeeping; it’s about unlocking potential in ways nobody’s thought of yet.
M: You’ve been granted approval to add one University graduate to your team, but have 100 applicants, all with outstanding academic results. How do you find your perfect candidate - what are you looking for?
SG: Beyond academic results, I look for candidates who demonstrate self-awareness, resilience, and a growth mindset. The perfect candidate is someone who’s eager to learn, collaborates well with others, and aligns with our values and mission..
M: In the words of John Dewey, “education is not preparation for life, education is life itself.”
What’s next on your #learning agenda?
SG: I’m currently exploring advances in AI and cloud security, as well as deepening my understanding of cross-cultural leadership to better support our global teams. Lifelong learning keeps me energised and ready for new challenges.
