Human on the Inside with Rupa Chakravarty

Human on the Inside. We’re big believers in the power of human skills. But don’t just take our word for it - the evidence for excellence powered by human (‘soft’) skills is everywhere! In this engaging, ever-enlightening series, we speak with industry leaders, innovators and game-changers to learn a little about their personal career journeys, and how human-led strategies, philosophies and cultures are proving a force for good in their working worlds …

Maxme: Welcome, and thanks for stepping into the #SuccessIsHuman Spotlight!

You’re Director at Suncity schools.

In a few sentences,  what does your role entail?

Rupa Chakravaty: To be a teacher, a mother-interchanging of roles as per the situation and merger of roles too.

M: Tell us a little about your personal education pathway/s - what led you to where you are now? How closely do your formal qualifications match your current career?

RC: I am convent educated hence a lot of focus on morals and scruples and ethics. It has helped me to be upright and righteous in my job as a teacher and ‘walk the talk’ which is the best way to teach SAANSKARS to the children.

M: If you could share one piece of career advice to your 21 year old self it would be ...

RC: Do it from the heart, let the head be your clarion call and your hand the manifester of your deeds.

M: Maximising the potential of individuals, communities and businesses through the power of human skills is the reason Maxme exists. Can you tell us a little about the role and / or value of human skills in your workplace right now?

RC: We go by the acronym ASK, at the workplace- Application (Right Attitude too), Skills, Knowledge.

M: Self Awareness sets the critical foundation for all Maxme learning experiences. What’s your strongest personal super power? And on the flip side, what’s one human / ‘soft’ skill you’ve had to really work on improving over the course of your career?

RC: The interpersonal and linguistic skills are my forte.

M: In your view, which human skills are most critical for Indian students to develop today?

RC: Being a good human being, critical thinking, creative thinking, sense of responsibility, tenacity of purpose compassion.

M: What changes or innovations would you like to bring into your school to strengthen human skills education?

RC: Help the students to find alternative activities to do at home, as we do in school to reduce social media addiction. It is ruining their innocence.

M: American philosopher, psychologist, and educational reformer John Dewey said, “education is not preparation for life, education is life itself.”

What’s next on your #learning agenda?

RC: Be more of an AI learner and use it regularly in my daily routine as an enabler.
