Why did you first approach Maxme?

Katie Haywood

Director - Enterprise & Operational Risk

I knew about Maxme as I'd worked with Maxme's founder, Renata Sguario many moons ago, and I developed a really strong and long-term friendship with her. I saw an opportunity to connect our organisations because I had a deep understanding of the way Ren thinks, her passion for humans and the skills that they bring. This was in direct alignment with the culture that we're building and our focus on people development at Custom Fleet.

What challenges were you seeking to mitigate through this program?

Shaun Cameron: We wanted to work with Maxme to tackle a particular challenge - to help us build the next generation of emerging woman leaders at Custom Fleet. Plus it creates a strong retention play and sense of belonging for those on the program.

How would you describe the human skills proficiency of your people before engaging Maxme?

Shaun Cameron: The emerging woman leaders we identified for Green Light were already rated a strong talent in our business, so we knew they had the essence of what it takes to be a great leader at Custom Fleet.

What wasn't clear was the collective strengths of our women. We wanted program participants to have a deep understanding of their unique strengths and how they can leverage them more often, every day at work.

We also wanted to build their human skills to a level where they felt ready to tackle their next career challenge with confidence and to be frank, in a way that men who are often less skilled do.

We have now built a strong community of women over two cohorts who are committed to supporting each other on their ongoing career journeys.

How did you collaborate with Maxme to bring Green Light to life?

Katie Haywood: After our initial meeting with Maxme, we filled them in on our vision for what we wanted the Green Light Program to look like. Maxme was able to have a look at their suite of information and identify the program. And as it turned out, they had an ideal match for what we needed. They were able to customise the program to give it the Custom Fleet requirements and the culture overlay that we were looking for.

How important was measuring the learning impacts & outcomes of this program?

Shaun Cameron: Human skill development is traditionally very hard to evidence a return on investment, and this is one of the main reasons it was clear we wanted to work with Maxme. They have already developed a rigorous, data driven process to prove out ROI.

But of course, being Maxme, this is focused on the human and demonstrating the improvement, both at an individual and cohort level, across all the human skills developed in the program.

Some of the most impressive results for us as a business included:

  • a 30% uplift in both coaching & presentation skills

  • 21% uplift in self awareness

  • 100% of participants agreeing they were more confident in how to apply their strengths

  • 100% of program participants feeling better equipped to have effective conversations with co-workers, peers and their manager.

What’s next for Green Light & it’s participants?

Katie Haywood: Well, the first iteration of this program was focused on foundational leadership, so we're really keen to take this program to the next level.

We want to use participants from our previous cohorts, but their next program will be focused on building really strong influencing skills, strong personal brand skills and senior leadership capabilities.

We really are keen to move this cohort into leadership in the near future.

Advice to other leaders considering human skill development for their people

Shaun Cameron: Don't underestimate the power of developing human skills.

We always weight to technical skills when promoting new leaders, but human skills are what they need to develop more of in the transition phase from individual contributor to people leader.

Katie Haywood: Don't underestimate the power of developing human skills in this fast changing technology landscape. We need to hone in on what values humans bring in our workplace environments, not what AI brings. It's we've got to be the key to our success is going to be the differentiator between humans versus AI, and that's what Maxme has helped us to really understand and help us focus on with our people.

What was one of your favourite things about Green Light?

Andrea Walker

Compliance & Assurance Manager:

Learning a little bit more about myself in my top five and my bottom five superpowers. Some of the results were surprising. Which good to learn, and being able to revisit these through the app was really helpful.

Candace White

Customer Experience Team Lead:

I love the Hodie app.

It really helped me with learning, I enjoyed kind of like the interactive sessions that we had with all the other ladies. I was also away whilst the program was going for a month or so, so I could continue with the course while I was overseas. And, you know, still come back to the program and be up to speed.

Your #1 learning from the program?

Andrea Walker: For me, it was learning who I want to be as a leader, making the shift from being a good work mate to a good leader and how to do that successfully.

I want to be open and honest, but sometimes that will come with challenges, and I think this program really helps you to support overcoming those challenges.

What made Green Light different from other L+D programs?

Andrea Walker: So the difference with the Green Light Program for me, what I really noticed is the smaller groups. You were able to have more opportunity to speak up, feel safe and hear other people's voices, which sometimes can get lost in bigger groups. Also having the Hodie app at our fingertips was really fantastic.

How did you feel on completion versus the start?

Candace White: I think, like I said before, when I first started, was almost clueless on what to do in leadership and kind of what type of leader I was and how to utilise my strengths and weaknesses. Now I'm definitely a lot more confident since going through the Green Light Program!
